Daily Reminders

by Aditya Gir

There are a few simple things we can do on a daily basis for healthier living. However, most of us are too busy taking care of everything else except our own health! This one, we're quick to postpone and often times, until it is too late. In an effort to help you take care of yourself, we have compiled a list of reminders. If you wish, print the list and place it in a location where you will most likely read it every day.

The following are some daily reminders:

  • Reduce Stress: This is probably the most important thing to do. Either meditation or prayer is a good counter for stress. Try to be as calm as possible throughout the day.
  • Exercise: Walk for at least one hour every day. Yoga, weight training, and various other forms of exercise are also good. Needless to say, exercise is also a stress reliever.
  • Breathe: Remember to breathe properly. Try to take deep breaths all day long. The more oxygen you intake the better your body performs and you feel less lethargic.
  • Sleep: A good night's sleep is very important for the immune system - at least 8 hours.
  • Sun: Sun is an important source of natural Vitamin D and is very healing. Sun bathe for 15 - 20 minutes early in the morning. Once the sun gets hot it is more harmful than useful!
  • Fresh Air: Fresh air is also important. Being around plants and trees during the day is very healthy because they produce oxygen.
  • Nutrition: Besides natural juices and other natural supplements, make sure to eat as much natural/organic foods as possible. Avoid meats, processed foods, dairy products, canned fruits/vegetables, microwave-cooked foods, sodas, etc. The more natural, the better!
  • Water: Hydration is yet another important factor. Drink plenty of water, but not too much. There is such a thing as water toxicity. There are different theories as to how much water to drink, but 4 - 6 glasses a day should be sufficient for most people. Raw fruits and vegetables contain water as well. There may be some factors that could affect the amount of water needed such as lifestyle, body mass, etc.
  • Refresh: Splash water on your face a few times a day to refresh yourself, especially if you are in front of the computer screen.

As always, if you're unsure, consult with a healthcare professional or physician before starting an exercise program or a specific diet. Other than that, relax, breathe and enjoy your life!
